Sectionals & Tutorials
Sectionals are when Mrs. Sykora/Ms. Pruden (meets with a few sections/instruments of the orchestra to work on technique required for their parts in our pieces for UIL contest happening March 9-10. Going to UIL for the students means putting on concert black (example image attached; they must have semi-formal black clothes), missing school, performing a concert for 3 judges, performing a piece they've never worked on before for 3 judges, and then getting pizza reward at the school afterward. It is a great opportunity for students to feel successful through challenge and it is a privilege, not a right.
Students must:
pass all their classes with a 70 or higher
attend each sectional (once a week)
and not be given ISS or OSS from here until UIL happens.
Communication:
if you cannot take your child to school at 7:30 via car, they need to get to the orchestra room as soon as the bus drops them off. Please try to make arrangements to get them here by 7:30 so they are ready to make the most of every minute before the bell rings
please email me if your child will not be at sectionals
your child can email me too, but they must cc you on the email for it to count
if no communication is provided, it will count towards a strike. If they miss 2 sectionals, they will receive one strike. If you get 3 strikes, you cannot attend UIL and you do not get to have pizza afterward.
If students are not passing their classes by Pre UIL on February 20, they will receive a strike, putting them on probation and they may not participate in UIL unless outstanding work is completed promptly.
If students receive ISS or OSS, they will receive a strike and be on probation from UIL and may not participate unless extensive reparations are made (case-by-case basis).
