Tardy Policy
Orchestra tardies look different and here's why
While your child may be on time to orchestra class, they may still be marked tardy.
Every day at the start of class, Ms. Pruden / Mr. Frerck say "your tuning timer starts in ..." and then we count down from 10 to give everyone enough time to have their chair & stand, binder, tuner, and instrument and then we begin a 2 minute timer for tuning.
Students can raise their hand and get help from a teacher for tuning (especially beginner students), but everyone is expected to tune in 2 minutes. If they are not tuned in 2 minutes they may be marked tardy if we are doing an "Orchestra Tardy Sweep" that day.
Per the FMS Tardy Policy, students can receive a maximum of 3 tardies in a class, and then they are given a detention.
This is to maximize our class time and to encourage the right mindset for orchestra class: we are respectful, responsible, and on time.
Your child's teacher will email you to let you know that your child received a tardy that day.
If you have questions or feel your child should be excluded from this policy, please email us at madison.pruden@pisd.edu or at matthew.frerck@pisd.edu.
